🍕 The best pizza in Brazil tastes like pine nut entrevero and is made in Chapecó, in the west of Santa Catarina, according to the evaluation of the judges of the 7th Copa Brasileira de Pizzerias 2026, a competition in São Paulo (SP) that brought together more than 1.8 thousand entries from all over the country.
The award-winning pizza was produced by chef Samuel Tafernaberri Vasques, and was inspired by a family recipe, typical of the Santa Catarina winter. This year, the championship looked for recipes that represented the cuisine of each state.

Winter traditional and party protagonist: pine nut harvest begins in SC
Only 33 pizza makers were selected to participate, and eight reached the final stage, on May 29th. They were evaluated by a panel of 12 technical judges, who analyzed criteria such as technique, dough texture, balance of ingredients and final flavor.
“As we have been working on this flavor for a few years and the public appreciated it, we combined products with a Geographical Indication (GI) from Santa Catarina, such as frescol and serrano cheese, as well as recipes that my daughter made at home and that I learned from when I was little,” Samuel told g1.
🥘 One of the most traditional winter dishes in Santa Catarina is entrevero. It brings together pine nuts and different types of food, such as pork, bacon, pepperoni and seasonings.
In Samuel's recipe, the pizza uses ingredients such as serrano cheese, traditional fresh cheese and pine nuts. The choice of inputs sought to reinforce the importance of valuing local producers and Brazilian biomes on the biggest culinary stages.
"This achievement is not just for our pizzeria, but also a recognition of the entire culture, local producers and the history that enriches our country's cuisine. Being able to represent Santa Catarina was a great honor. Working with Italian gastronomy, with recipes I learned at home, is reliving and remembering, day by day, a series of moments of happiness", he celebrated.
