Vessel sinks in the Port of Noronha and becomes tilted The cargo boat Farol das Rocas hit a sunken and submerged vessel in the Port of Santo Antônio, in Fernando de Noronha, this Sunday (14). The ship was tilted after the impact, but was removed from the site with no injuries or environmental damage reported (see video above). The ship is loaded with 54 tons of mineral water, oil and construction material. The removal operation mobilized other vessels that helped in the rescue and prevented the Rocas Lighthouse from sinking. ✅ Receive g1 news on WhatsApp Cargo boat was left tilted after colliding with the wreck Symone Silva/Personal collection According to the commander of Farol das Rocas, José Jânio Tavares, the incident occurred because the buoy that signals the sinking in the region is out of the correct position. "The problem was caused by the buoy that signals the sinking, which is out of place. This needs to be resolved," said the commander. Boat has more than 50 tons of cargo Symone Silva/Personal collection ICMBio inspection The incident mobilized a team from the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio). The agency's Territorial Planning coordinator, Mário Douglas Fortini, was at the port to assess the situation. "I came to check the vessel that collided with the wreck and was tilted. Support was needed to remove it from the scene. We found that there was no oil spill or environmental impact", informed Fortini. ICMBio also found that the buoy that signals the sinking is out of the correct position. "The finding is that the signaling buoy installed by the Navy is out of place. This creates insecurity for people diving on the wreck and also for vessels using the port channel. Even following the signaling, navigators may face problems", assessed Fortini. g1 contacted the Administration of Fernando de Noronha, responsible for port management, and the Brazilian Navy to clarify why the buoy is out of the correct position. Until the publication of this report, there was no response. After the incident, the ship docked at the pier in Noronha Ana Clara Marinho/TV Globo Technical note g1 had access to a technical note that analyzes the incident involving Farol das Rocas and also an incident recorded with the Ambipar 440 vessel, a ship used by the company responsible for urban cleaning on the island. The document concludes that the incidents involving the two vessels, recorded this Sunday (14), are not related to possible silting in the Port of Santo Antônio. According to the note, Farol das Rocas temporarily ran aground while approaching the port after hitting a sunken structure already known in the area. The vessel received support from the port team, docked normally and completed the operation with no injuries or damages reported. The Ambipar 440 presented a mechanical failure caused by a belt breaking. The problem occurred near Ponta da Sapata, in an external navigation area, outside the port limits. After repairs, the vessel continued its journey to Recife. The technical analysis explains that silting occurs when the accumulation of sediment reduces the depth of the navigation area and starts to affect several vessels. According to the document, this scenario was not identified in any of the incidents. VIDEOS: most seen in Pernambuco in the last 7 days the
