In the World Cup atmosphere, schools in the Goiás state network are offering students a special menu inspired by the cuisine of the tournament's champion countries. The action, called Flavors of the Champions, continues until the start of the competition and transforms the snack time into a cultural experience within the school environment.
The proposal was developed by the State Department of Education (Seduc) and includes recipes adapted from nations such as Brazil, Germany, Italy, Argentina, France, England and Spain. According to the nutritionist technically responsible for school meals in the State of Goiás, Lorran Abrantes, the initiative was designed to go beyond traditional food.

“The action proposes that students get to know different cultures through food, using gastronomy as a pedagogical tool during the World Cup period”, he explained.
The dishes were planned by nutritionists to meet the requirements of school meals, maintaining nutritional balance and respecting the guidelines of the National School Meal Program (Pnae).

“The menus were adapted to the reality of school meals, guaranteeing a different experience, but within the required standards”, detailed Lorran.
Among the options served are schnitzel with potato salad, representing Germany, and Bolognese lasagna with tricolor salad, inspired by Italy. Argentina appears on the menu with the pastel de papas, similar to a meat escondidinho with puree, accompanied by criolla salad. Uruguay is remembered for its puchero, a meat and vegetable stew.
Other highlights include fish and chips, a typical English dish made from breaded fish and potatoes, and poulet à la provençale, from France, served with ratatouille. Spain participates with a version of paella with chicken and vegetables, while Brazil is present with traditional recipes such as feijoada, chicken with pequi, moqueca, baião de Dois and virado à paulista, in reference to the team's five world titles.

In addition to the main meals, some schools also started to offer desserts inspired by the countries, such as banoffee and panna cotta, always respecting the required nutritional criteria.
The initiative goes beyond food and seeks to expand students' cultural repertoire through gastronomy.
“The idea is to contribute not only to nutrition, but also to learning and the formation of affective memories, linked to an event that mobilizes students”, stated the nutritionist.
According to Lorran, the project also required important adaptations to the original recipes. Traditionally fried dishes, for example, gained healthier versions, with roasted preparation techniques and the use of fresh or minimally processed ingredients.
The action has been applied in several units of the state network, especially in full-time schools, where students eat several meals throughout the day. According to Lorran, acceptance has been positive.
"It's a simple action, but it moves the entire school during a period that practically everyone enjoys. The students are enjoying it a lot, as are the lunch ladies", he highlighted.
According to the nutritionist, among the dishes that have most pleased students are lasagna and puchero, which stand out among their favorites so far. Puchero, a typical Uruguayan dish, and Bolognese lasagna, which represents Italy, are the students' favorite dishes so far
