The Boqueirão Hotel Fazenda is one of the references of rural tourism in the Brazilian hotel industry by combining, for more than three decades, hospitality, agricultural production and experiences linked to everyday life in the countryside. The enterprise has been operating since 1990 on a family property dating back to the end of the 19th century in Lages, considered the capital and gateway to Serra Catarinense. Now, the hotel is offering a new attraction to guests: birdwatching. With an area of 10 million square meters, the farm maintains rural activity as an essential part of the experience offered to visitors. The property's day-to-day activities involve agricultural production, animal husbandry and typical rural activities integrated into the tourist operation. Among the available options are horseback riding, ecological trails, monitoring agricultural routines and experiences focused on contact with nature. The property also houses grain plantations, Brangus cattle breeding and Creole horses. In addition to rural activities, the hotel has infrastructure focused on leisure and rest. Guests will find thermal pools, hot tubs, saunas, sports areas, sport fishing and adventure attractions amidst the characteristic landscapes of Serra Catarinense. Gastronomy highlights ingredients from the region Gastronomy is another differentiator of the experience offered by Boqueirão Hotel Fazenda. Among the highlights is the pine nut, a symbolic seed of the Serra Catarinense, harvested on the farm and used in different recipes served to guests. The hotel operates on a full board basis, allowing you to immerse yourself in country life throughout your stay. Recently, the venture also started investing in high-altitude wine tourism through the Quinta do Boqueirão project. The initiative marks the group's entry into the wine sector and expands the possibilities for visitors interested in experiences linked to the universe of wines produced in the region. Another aspect present in the operation is the adoption of practices aimed at environmental management. Among the initiatives are the generation of energy through solar panels, vegetable gardens for internal supply and the use of water from hydromineral sources connected to the Guarani Aquifer. Birdwatching gains space in the program The latest news at Boqueirão Hotel Fazenda is the inclusion of birdwatching in its programming. The property is located in an area of Mixed Ombrophylous Forest, with a predominance of araucaria trees (Araucaria angustifolia), an environment that favors a great diversity of species. To date, more than 120 birds have been cataloged in the area. The expectation is that this number will reach around 150 species as monitoring work progresses. Among the records already made are species such as blue crow (Cyanocorax caeruleus), grimpeiro (Leptasthenura setaria), charão parrot (Amazona pretrei), red tanager (Laterallus leucopyrrhus), red-capped hornbill (Thamnophilus ruficapillus) and who-wearer (Poospiza nigrorufa). The activity features the participation of biologist Marcelo Yutaro, graduated from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), master's researcher at the institution and guide specialized in bird observation. According to the expert, the practice has shown constant growth in Brazil and also in Serra Catarinense. "We know that birdwatching has already been practiced by some guests over the last few years, however, often without adequate guidance or structure for observation. As a biologist, my objective in this project is to evaluate the area's potential for birdwatching. To this end, I am mapping local diversity, identifying the occurrence of resident, migratory and endemic bird species in the region. With this diagnosis, we were able to define strategic points for bird watching in the hotel, providing an even richer experience for guests interested in the activity” explains Yutaro. The next steps include the implementation of specific spaces for observation and photography, in addition to the installation of drinking fountains and feeders for birds. The activity will officially become part of the hotel's programming from June onwards. Do you want to get to know the experiences offered by Boqueirão Hotel Fazenda up close?
