Port of Vila Velha increases storage and cargo handling capacity
The Vila Velha Port Terminal (TVV), in Espírito Santo, inaugurated this Wednesday (10) a new cargo handling and storage area that should increase its operational capacity by around 40%. The terminal has established itself as the main entry point for electric and hybrid cars imported into Brazil.
The space, called Retroárea Penedo, received an investment of R$35 million and is approximately 65 thousand square meters. The expansion comes at a time of growth in terminal operations.

According to the Espírito Santo Export and Import Trade Union (Sindiex), around 90% of imports of these types of vehicles enter the country via the coast of Espírito Santo, mostly through TVV.
For the coordinator of the Sindiex Logistics Committee, Breno Sasso, the new area strengthens Espírito Santo's position as one of the main logistics hubs in the country.
"We are very pleased with this delivery, which represents a clear improvement in the flow of goods. The expansion benefits exporters and importers by increasing the terminal's operational capacity and reducing the time cargo spends at the port", he assessed.

8 thousand more containers per month
The expectation of Log-In Logística Integrada, the company responsible for managing the port, is that the new structure will allow it to receive approximately 8,000 more containers per month. The complex is the only one in Espírito Santo that receives containers.
In addition to increasing storage capacity, the measure should reduce logistical bottlenecks and prevent cargo from needing to be forwarded to ports in other states.
"Imagine a producer from the north of the state who needs to transport a load and passes through the port without being able to operate here due to lack of capacity. He ends up having to take this load to Rio de Janeiro. This represents a huge cost", said Log-In's Terminals director, Gustavo Paixão.
In the last 12 months, TVV handled around 217 thousand containers. General cargo reached 929.7 thousand tons in 2025, a volume 30% higher than that recorded in the previous year.
According to Paixão, the expansion also creates conditions to attract new operations to Espírito Santo. In addition to electric vehicles, sectors such as offshore and steel can expand the use of the Espírito Santo port structure.
Gains in efficiency can also have economic consequences. With more agile operations and less need to move cargo, the tendency is to reduce these costs throughout the logistics chain.

"Today, around 16% of Brazilian GDP is consumed by logistics costs. This cost ends up making up the final price of products and also affects the competitiveness of exports. Gains in operational efficiency help reduce this impact and make the logistics chain more competitive."
The director also highlighted that the expansion also created jobs.
"For this project alone, we hired around 100 new professionals, who are already working in the operations of the new area. In addition to direct jobs, the expansion also creates opportunities for outsourced companies and other services linked to port activity." The entry into operation of Retroárea Penedo ends an investment cycle of R$205 million carried out by Log-In, since 2021, in TVV. The company also informed that it intends to invest more than R$500 million in the terminal by 2048, within the concession contract.
