A month before the accident between two helicopters that left six people dead in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, in the Southwest Zone of Rio, residents of Barra da Tijuca, in the same region, had already raised concerns about the safety of air traffic in the region to the authorities.
In a meeting on May 29th with the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) and the Department of Airspace Control (Decea), they asked for greater supervision over the circulation of aircraft.
Data presented by Decea itself during the meeting showed that around 34% of flights departing from Jacarepaguá Airport do not comply with the minimum altitude rules determined for the area.

Videos recorded by residents show helicopters flying close to buildings in Barra da Tijuca at different times of the day. According to the president of the Barra Community Chamber, Delair Dumbrosck, flybys are frequent and cause discomfort.

“There are constantly low flights, with noise that disrupts schools, family gatherings and those who work at home,” he said.
According to the entity's director, Paulo Samico, many of these aircraft take offshore routes, coming from the Campos Basin. “These are aircraft that make a huge noise and pass at a very low distance from the ground, therefore very close to buildings,” he said.

Residents report that the problem is old, but has intensified in recent years. "This grew a lot and took us to Brasília to complain. We were not heard. Unfortunately, it ended up becoming this tragedy," said Delair.

What is known about the accident
Cenipa points out that aircraft collisions in flight are very rare in Brazilian aviation
After the May meeting, deputies Hugo Leal (federal) and Cláudio Caiado (state), both from the PSD, sent letters to Anac and Decea asking for clarification on the monitoring of aircraft, possible punishments and corrective measures. The document cites the altitude non-compliance rate identified by Decea.
The system that detected these irregularities was installed at Jacarepaguá Airport last year, after years of complaints. For residents, however, there was a lack of effective actions based on the data. “Inspection exists, control began to be carried out, but no concrete measures were taken,” said Delair.

In a statement, Anac reported that it had not formally received the parliamentarians' letters, but stated that it was available to collaborate with initiatives that increase the safety and quality of air transport.
A new meeting is scheduled for next week, at the Decea headquarters, in the center of Rio. Residents, representatives from the city hall and the Air Force are expected to participate.

Meanwhile, investigations into the accident continue. The Civil Police ruled out the hypothesis of clandestine transport on the aircraft carrying five of the victims. According to investigators, the helicopter belonged to a lawyer who was a friend of the group.
Among the dead are American singer and producer Oliver Tree and Argentine YouTuber Gaspi, who had millions of followers on social media. The police are now awaiting reports from the Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa) and the analysis of flight plans to verify whether there was communication with the control tower and whether the aircraft were traveling on the correct routes.
The Medical-Legal Institute has already confirmed the identity of two of the victims: Argentines Gaspar Prim, known as Gaspi, and Lucas Vignale. The identification of American singer and producer Oliver Tree still depends on additional tests, including the possibility of a DNA test.

The concessionaire Pax Aeroportos, responsible for Jacarepaguá Airport, informed that it supports the inspection actions and reinforced that helicopter traffic in Barra and Recreio is not exclusive to the terminal, due to the existence of other helipads in the region.
Decea has not yet responded to questions sent after the meeting with residents.
