Restaurant with reference to Umbanda is the target of vandalism in Belém An episode of alleged religious intolerance became a police case in Belém. A restaurant with a name and images associated with Umbanda reported having been the target of prejudice and acts of vandalism in the Reduto neighborhood. According to reports related to the case, objects and religious symbols present in the establishment were broken. The episode generated repercussions among entities that work to defend religious freedom in Pará. In a statement, the Law and Defense of Religious Freedom Commission of the Brazilian Bar Association in Pará (OAB-PA) expressed solidarity with the restaurant and classified the reported facts as serious. The commission cited reports of depredation, vandalism and violation of religious symbols. The entity also stated that it vehemently repudiates any manifestation of religious intolerance and highlighted that freedom of belief is a right guaranteed by the Federal Constitution. The case began to be monitored by the commission, which defends the investigation of the facts and the accountability of those involved, if the allegations are confirmed by the authorities. The report has not yet been able to contact the Regional Council of Real Estate Brokers of Pará (Creci-PA) to comment on the conduct attributed to the brokerage mentioned in the case.
