Controversy is arising after an example of ‘entering date of birth’ reminiscent of the Sewol Ferry disaster was exposed on the Korea University Hospital mobile application (app). It was discovered that the phrase was modified late. This phrase was exposed not only at Korea University Hospital but also at other large hospitals, including the ‘Big 5’ hospitals, and has now been modified. According to the Newsis coverage on the 14th, the example of entering the date of birth on the family registration patient inquiry screen of the Korea University Hospital app ‘Hipass’ (an automatic medical fee payment system when registering a card) displays the phrase ‘Enter 20140416 as of April 16, 2014’, which has been pointed out online as reminiscent of the Sewol Ferry disaster. It has now been changed to ‘July 14, 2026’. The app was developed and managed by Lemon Healthcare, and the same phrase was posted at several other university hospitals using the app, but was later deleted. We are currently investigating how many hospitals were incorrectly posted, but it is known that many of them are using this platform.
