A civil complaint was filed to ban drivers from listening to the radio on Seoul city buses. According to the Seoul City Council on the 14th, the complainant, Mr. Lee, requested, “Please make an ordinance banning radio for Seoul city bus drivers.” Mr. Lee said, “It is inconvenient for all passengers on the bus when a Seoul city bus driver plays the radio.” He pointed out, “Seoul city buses are not the driver’s personal vehicle. It is a hardship for passengers to listen to various drivers’ radio according to their tastes.” City buses are a service industry, he said, criticizing that “the sound of the bus driver's radio is a nuisance when passengers are traveling quietly.” He also said, “Because the bus driver is listening to the radio, he does not recognize when passengers press the exit bell and does not open the back door.” He complained, “Some drivers sing along to popular songs loudly, and others curse and drive recklessly when asked to turn off the radio.” The Seoul Metropolitan Government's Bus Policy Department took the position that it is difficult to ban it uniformly. Listening to the radio is uniformly prohibited under current laws and regulations.
