Parreira was diagnosed in 2023 with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a type of cancer that affects the body's defense system. Last year, the former coach showed signs of recovery and remission of the disease.

But, in 2025, Parreira returned to live with the symptoms of the disease and resumed cancer treatment, with permanent medical monitoring.
In a statement, Hospital Samaritano confirmed Parreira's hospitalization, but did not provide details about the health status of the former Brazilian team coach.

Career
A physical education teacher, trained by the Army, Parreira is one of the most successful names in the history of Brazilian football. As a coach, he led the team to victory in the 1994 World Cup in the United States, after Brazil went 24 years without winning world football titles.
In addition to the four-times, he won the 2004 Copa América and the 2005 Confederations Cup. Previously, he was part of the technical committee of the three-time world champion team in 1970 as a physical trainer. In 2013, he was technical coordinator of the team that won the Confederations Cup.
