A 25-year-old man, wanted by the Bahia Court for running over and killing a retired federal highway police officer, was arrested on Wednesday night (17), in Itatiba (SP). João Vitor Goes dos Santos had an open preventive arrest warrant for the crime of homicide.
The crime occurred in October 2025, in the Pituba neighborhood, in Salvador (BA). The victim, Martha Maria dos Santos, was training for a race when she was hit by the vehicle. The collision was recorded by security cameras. See below.

According to the Military Police, the team arrived at the suspect after residents of the Vivendas do Engenho D’Água neighborhood, in Itatiba, reported that an individual had taken up residence in an apparently abandoned house and claimed to be at large.
When approached, João Vitor showed nervousness. The agents consulted the system and confirmed the arrest warrant, issued by the 1st Criminal Court of Porto Seguro (BA) and valid until 2046. He was taken in handcuffs to the city police station and remains at the disposal of the Court.

Martha Maria dos Santos died on October 16, 2025, ten days after being run over while training for a race on a section of Avenida Paulo VI, in the Pituba neighborhood, in Salvador.
The victim was rescued and admitted in serious condition to the State General Hospital (HGE), but did not survive.
According to investigations, João Victor was driving his mother's car in the wrong direction at the time of the collision. After the accident, he presented himself at the police station responsible for the case, gave a statement and was initially released.

The Civil Police investigation also showed that the young man did not have a National Driving License (CNH) and tried to hide traces of the accident.
According to information obtained by the TV Bahia report, João Victor asked a friend to replace parts of the vehicle, including the windshield, to hide damage caused by the crash. The car was seized and underwent forensic examination.
The suspect's mother, whose name was not released, was also interviewed and said she did not give him permission to use the car. The woman and her son left the unit after the statement.
The collision was recorded by a security camera, which shows that the car was traveling in the opposite direction. The driver fled immediately after the collision, without providing assistance to the victim. Watch above.
Martha Maria was the first woman to preside over the Federal Highway Police Union in the State of Bahia (SINPRF-BA). In addition to the Santa Catarina race, the retired police officer was also registered for the traditional São Silvestre Race, which will take place in December, in the city of São Paulo.
According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), Martha Maria also participated in humanitarian aid projects, working in defense of human dignity, equality and social justice.
