Success of the band Estakazero, 'Lua Minha' was written in honor of the dancer At first glance, the song "Lua Minha", by the band Estakazero, seems like a tribute to the Moon "that lights up the nights on the coast" — and, in a way, it is. But the song was not made for the natural satellite, but for a dancer called Luane. 🎤 WHERE DID THE SONG COME FROM? In this series of reports, g1 interviewed artists who move the São João scene in Bahia and brings interesting facts about the stories of the singers and their compositions. Film with Regina Casé contributed to the success of the northeastern accordionist composer of 'Esperando na Janela' Meet the Bahian forró singer whose career was boosted after a trailer overturned and CDs were looted Leo Estakazero, founder of the band and who is now pursuing a solo career, said that the song came about on a rainy day in the early 2000s, when the musician and composer from Minas Gerais, Kuque Malino, traveled from Belo Horizonte to Salvador. Leo Estakazero r5producer Kuque was already known as a composer in the forró world and had a band called Forró Malino in Minas Gerais. "I arrived at the Salvador bus station around 5pm and it was raining heavily. Suddenly, a girl started calling me and I realized that she was the one who had come to greet me", said Kuque. 📲 Click here and join the g1 Bahia WhatsApp group The girl in question was Luane, a dancer who worked in Estakazero and other forró bands in the capital of Bahia. The first verses of the song narrate the arrival of the miner at the bus station in the capital of Bahia: "I arrived, it was raining I didn't know there was someone waiting I looked, smiled Sweet smile that makes you fall in love." Kuque Malino in a show with a forró band Personal Archive According to Kuque, only the first verses of the song correspond to reality. Even though Luane was beautiful and friendly, the two did not fall in love — unlike the song's lyrical self. "It seemed like there was a passion, but it was an invented love. Invented passions interest me much more." Kuque composed around 12 songs for Estakazero, but "Lua Minha", according to him, was the one that earned the most royalties. For Leo Estakazero, this became one of the most special songs in the band's history. "I consider it one of the most important songs, it's one of my favorites and much requested at shows", stated the vocalist. Back to square one Estakazero has hits such as "Lua Minha", "Encosta N'Eu" and "Sapatilha 37". Disclosure The band's name also had a curious history. In the 1990s, Leo worked as an office boy at a bank and studied Accounting at college. Together with friends and family, he founded Colher de Pau, a forró band that conquered the university scene in Salvador. "It was an unpretentious project, it wasn't a professional investment, we played to have fun", he recalled. Despite not having created the band to pursue an artistic career, the music won the hearts of Bahians, who wanted to professionalize the project. As the other members of the group did not have the same intention, Leo decided to found a new band. Upon learning that he was going to start a new project, his friends asked: "but are you going to go back to square one?" "When they said that, I remembered the farm that my father had in the interior, which was called Estakazero. I believed that that was a sign, that that should be the name of the band", he stated. In his 20-year career Estakazero scored several hits such as Encosta N'Eu and Sapatilha 37 Disclosure With a strong influence from the pé-de-serra and xote styles, Estakazero's success was such that it became the artist's surname, whose solo career is signed as Leo Estakazero. In 2026, he will celebrate 30 years on the road. In addition to "Lua Minha", among the hits are "Encosta N'Eu" and "Sapatilha 37", songs released in the 2000s and which are still successful today, including with new generations. "Our songs are still up to date, people keep asking for them at shows, parents play them at home and that's how new generations know them", celebrated the artist.
