The Consumer Confidence Index (ICC) in São Paulo had a slight drop of 0.4% in May, to 120.6 points, compared to the 121.1 points recorded in April. In comparison with the same month in 2025, the index in May registered an increase of 7.9%. The data was released this Monday (8) by the Federation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism of the State of São Paulo (FecomercioSP). The ICC scale ranges from zero (total pessimism) to 200 points (total optimism). The 100-point mark is the threshold that separates optimism from pessimism. According to FecomercioSP, the May result is a reflection of the current economic environment. Among the main factors that are negatively influencing the ICC is the basic interest rate (Selic), at 14.5% per year, which makes credit more expensive and makes purchases in installments and finance difficult. On the positive side, according to FecomercioSP, there is the new Desenrola Brasil, a program that offers discounts of up to 90% on credit card debt, special checks and personal credit.  “FecomercioSP notes that the program can improve families’ future perception of their own financial reorganization, but its concrete effects on consumption must be gradual and depend on effective adherence, the conditions offered by financial institutions and the family’s real ability to pay,” said the entity, in a note.
