Expert reinforces importance of dengue vaccine: 'unquestionable'
The Municipal Health Department of Rio de Janeiro suspended the application of the dengue vaccine produced by the Butantan Institute. The measure was adopted following a recommendation from the Ministry of Health, which is investigating two suspicious deaths of vaccinated patients in other regions of the country.
According to the federal government, the victims showed reactions after receiving the vaccine. The objective of the investigation is to clarify whether there is any relationship between deaths and vaccination.
The Butantan vaccine has been available in the city of Rio since February this year, exclusively for health professionals. According to the city hall, 7,002 doses were administered, with no serious adverse events recorded in the city.
The Municipal Health Department highlighted that the suspension is as a precaution and follows guidance from the Ministry of Health while investigations are completed.
The federal government's recommendation only refers to the vaccine produced by the Butantan Institute. The Takeda laboratory's dengue vaccine, available since 2024 on the public network for adolescents aged 10 to 14, has not suffered any restrictions.
According to the city hall, the application of the Takeda vaccine continues normally for the indicated target audience.
