A 40-year-old man was arrested this Saturday (6) in the Campo Grande neighborhood, in the city of Rio de Janeiro (RJ), suspected of being the main recipient of stolen and stolen vehicles in Poços de Caldas (MG) and other cities in the south of Minas. The arrest was carried out by the Minas Gerais Civil Police, through the Poços de Caldas Regional Police Station, with support from the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police.

According to police chief Cleyson Brenner, investigations indicate that the suspect ordered vehicles for criminals specializing in robberies and theft, paying between R$5,000 and R$10,000 per car. Then, the vehicles were tampered with and resold.
"He is also being investigated for being one of the main responsible for the exponential increase in vehicle thefts in the Poços de Caldas region, especially large pickup trucks", he states.

According to the investigation, after investigations progressed in Minas Gerais, the man moved to the state of São Paulo and started using a false identity. In the state of São Paulo, he was arrested for the crimes of theft, vehicle cloning and drug trafficking, but escaped from the Araraquara Penitentiary in 2022.
"After escaping, he moved to the state of Rio de Janeiro, where he again used a false name and continued his criminal enterprise", says the police chief.
Investigations indicate that he continued to order stolen and stolen vehicles in Minas Gerais to be taken to Rio de Janeiro.
Arrest and seizures
The location of the suspect was possible thanks to the work of the Police Intelligence Agency of the Civil Police in Poços de Caldas, with operational support from the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro. According to Brenner, he rented vehicles and made frequent trips to Poços de Caldas. At the time of his arrest, he was returning from Minas Gerais to Rio de Janeiro.
"Immediately, we represented, together with the judicial department, by issuing a search warrant that the seizure for the city of Rio de Janeiro, duly decreed as measured by the Judiciary of Poços de Caldas", details Brenner.
During the investigation, which lasted until early evening, cell phones, notebooks, money and documents were seized. The man was also arrested for using a false document.
Criminal history
According to the Civil Police, the person being investigated is considered extremely dangerous and has convictions totaling around 40 years in prison. Information gathered during the investigations also points to a possible connection with the criminal faction Comando Vermelho.
Police reported that the suspect maintained a high standard of living using a false identity. He had a company registered with fraudulent data and, according to investigations, he even registered a daughter using the false name he adopted.
According to the corporation, in a previous arrest carried out in São Paulo, the person being investigated had resisted the armed police approach, putting the safety of the agents and other people at risk.
Investigations continue to identify the suspect's participation in other crimes and link him to the various investigations opened in Poços de Caldas and cities in the region.
