A current police officer who lured a voluntarily present thief suspect out of the police station, illegally arrested him, and manipulated investigation documents to detain him has been handed over to trial. The Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office's Criminal Division 4 (Chief Prosecutor Kim Byeong-cheol) indicted police officer A (43) without detention on the 14th on charges of abuse of power, forgery of public records, forgery of public records, etc., and violation of the Act on Promotion of Digitalization of Criminal Justice Procedures. Mr. A is accused of luring suspect B, who voluntarily appeared at the police station on May 22 on charges of special theft, to come out of the police station for the purpose of emergency arrest, and then arresting him despite knowing that the arrest requirements had not been met. Mr. A is also accused of falsely writing and exercising an emergency arrest form that states, “I found him by chance on the street during an interrogation and did not have time to issue an arrest warrant, so I made an emergency arrest.” He was also found to have falsified the seizure report and search and seizure warrant application form, as if he had secured the cash in the name of the theft victim by receiving it from a third party, as if he had directly confiscated it at the scene of an emergency arrest. According to the prosecution, Mr. B was arrested on May 28.
