The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 13th that it will pursue the ‘Everyone’s AI’ project, which will allow anyone to use domestically produced artificial intelligence (AI) for free. This is a project that embodies the ‘Plan to make daily use of AI for all citizens’ unveiled in March of this year. The purpose is to reduce dependence on overseas generated AI and reduce the gap in AI use among citizens, moving towards an ‘AI basic society’. The Ministry of Science and ICT will hold a contest for businesses from this day to the 11th of next month and select two or three companies with experience in serving the public. Participating companies must utilize more than 50% of domestically produced AI that meets the independent foundation model standards, and the proportion of domestically produced models other than their own models must exceed 30%. Foreign models can be used limited to essential functions, but are excluded from government support. The selected company plans to launch a beta service at the end of September and introduce a general-purpose AI chatbot and an AI agent that helps find and apply for public services within the year. The government will support 512 B200 graphics processing units (GPUs) and reduce operating costs from 2027.
