Samsung Electronics plans to soon begin mass production of Tesla’s next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) chip ‘AI5’. According to the semiconductor industry on the 13th, a senior researcher at Samsung Electronics' foundry division recently posted on his LinkedIn account, “The Tesla-Samsung AI5 chip has completed the ‘tape-out’ stage.” Tape-out refers to the stage of preparing for mass production by transferring the final designed semiconductor chip drawing to the foundry production process. Since it generally refers to the stage just before mass production, the industry predicts that production will begin soon. The employee added in the post, “This chip will be produced at the Taylor factory using a 2-nano process, and will soon be installed in Tesla’s latest products.” Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously mentioned that there is a possibility of releasing AI5 samples and some products this year, and that mass production will be possible around next year. AI5 is the successor to ‘AI4’ being produced by Samsung Electronics and is a new AI semiconductor for autonomous driving. the previous model
