A few days ago, I had the opportunity to talk with Japanese lawyers about sexual minority human rights and anti-discrimination laws in both Korea and Japan. At the event, in 2020, when the National Human Rights Commission recommended the Speaker of the National Assembly to enact an anti-discrimination law, Japanese lawyers could not hide their surprise and expressed envy. It was said to be difficult to imagine in Japan, where there is no independent human rights organization such as the National Human Rights Commission.
