Friend of teenager found dead in the forest of PR is arrested and confesses to the crime, says police chief The suspect of murdering Iasmyn Eckhardt da Silva, aged 14, was preventively arrested this Wednesday (17). He denied having sexually assaulted her and claims the murder was not premeditated. According to delegate Marcelo Pereira Dias, the suspect said he suspected that the victim was ambushing him. The suspect said he had been threatened by another man, who was also a friend of Iasmyn. During interrogation, the man detailed how he killed the teenager, according to the police chief. "It was demonstrated that he actually attacked the victim with a brick. One of them was found at the scene with blood on it. He attacked the victim at least four times in the back of the neck and on the side of the head, which caused the victim to die at the scene", said the delegate. The man also stated that he convinced Iasmyn to accompany him to where the crime took place, saying that he needed to get some drugs. The suspect said he stayed there for around 40 minutes after the crime and then left there alone. "According to him, he left the victim at the scene dressed. He says that he did not promote any type of act against the victim's sexual dignity and that there was a possibility that other people had frequented the place after he left," explained the delegate. Dias informed that the police will try to gather new security camera images to retrace the route taken by the suspect and the victim before the crime. He also seeks to confirm whether there really was no involvement of other people in the crime. The aunt says that, on the night of the crime, Iasmyn received a message from her friend asking for her help to recover a motorcycle that he said had damaged. Soon after, she allegedly left the house to help him, but did not return. "Whenever there is violence against a woman or a girl, people always ask: what was she doing? Were you a drug user, a prostitute, on the street? We have to stop asking these types of questions and start asking why men feel comfortable doing this to women's bodies every day", says Elizeni. How crime happened The crime took place during the early hours of Sunday (14). Iasmyn was a student and would have turned 15 on July 9th. According to the delegate, witnesses reported hearing an argument in the area where the body was found. “There is information that the victim screamed for help and, subsequently, two vehicles left the scene.”, stated the delegate. Iasmyn was found dead on Sunday afternoon (14) in a wooded area near the intersection of Avenida Sabiá and Rua Sérgio Gasparetto, in the Portal da Foz neighborhood. The body was located by a resident, who called the Military Police. According to the Civil Police, the teenager had serious injuries to her head and face. “The victim had injuries to his face and head. A piece of concrete with signs of blood was found next to the body, which indicates that she may have been hit by this object”, said Marcelo Pereira Dias.
