With the album "Pé de Serrita", João Gomes sang the origins of forró and paid tribute to his hometown, Serrita, in the Sertão of Pernambuco. It is with the repertoire of this project, marked by tradition and northeastern roots, that the artist transforms Avenida Alfredo Lisboa, in the Recife neighborhood, this Wednesday (17), into a large free festival (see more details below).
In an interview with g1, João Gomes stated that he intends to bring a bit of his own home to the stage. On the eve of São João, celebrated on June 24, Wednesday of next week, the singer said he believes that the party has the power to bring people together and remember their origins.

It's too exciting. 'Pé de Serrita' is a project that speaks a lot about who I am, about my references and about the music that shaped me as an artist and as a person. Taking this to an open-air São João, with so many people gathered, is like opening the doors of my house and inviting everyone to discover a piece of my history. I think São João has this power to bring people together and make us remember where we came from
This is the first time that the artist has taken the project to Recife. The party has already visited cities such as São Paulo, Fortaleza, Salvador and Porto, in Portugal. In addition to the artist, the event in the capital of Pernambuco will have a performance by Mestrinho, the singer's partner on the album “Dominguinho”.
The festival will also feature parades of June square dances and popular demonstration groups, such as blunderbusses and a fife band, a craft and gastronomy fair, occupying an area measuring 1.2 kilometers in length (find out more below).
"My heart is full of gratitude. Recife has always embraced me in a very special way and being able to hold an edition of São João Gomes here is a dream that comes to life. We thought of every detail to make a beautiful party, that has our style, that values the northeastern culture and that makes people live an experience that they will remember for a long time", said the singer.

The artist, known for drawing crowds in Recife, recorded the DVD “Acredite” in 2022 at Marco Zero, and, this year, he once again got the public excited on Rua da Aurora with a performance marked by the June “drilha” tradition, right after the end of Carnival (see video below).
"The feelings are on the surface. Carnival is wonderful, I love the energy, but São João touches a very special place inside me. It smells of childhood, of family together, of a lit bonfire, of an accordion playing and of memories that I have carried my whole life. It is a time that really moves me and makes me feel even more connected with my essence", he declared.

One of the attractions on the main stage, which will be set up at the Maritime Passenger Terminal, is Mestrinho, João Gomes' partner in the “Dominguinho” project, together with Jota.pê. The album won the award for "Best Roots Music Album in Portuguese Language" at the 2025 Latin Grammy Awards.
Although the show is based on the “Pé de Serrita” repertoire, the singer does not rule out surprises alongside his friend.
"The desire is always there. When Mestrinho and I meet, the music happens in a very natural way. 'Dominguinho' is a very special project and, if the opportunity arises, it will be really beautiful to relive these songs together with the public. But we like to leave some surprises for the day", he said.
Regarding the setlist, João Gomes said that, in addition to the songs from the new album, the repertoire also brings together important songs from his career. The proposal, according to him, is to transform the center of Recife into a big indoor party.
"I can tell you that it will be a very special night, designed to excite. There will be a lot of forró, a lot of accordion, songs that marked my career and others that are part of the history of our São João. The idea is to make the public feel like they are part of a big country party, but in the heart of Recife. And, of course, some surprises are in store. I want people to leave there with the feeling of having lived an unforgettable night", he stated.
The singer also highlighted the expectation for the performance and the desire to see the public come together to celebrate northeastern culture in Recife.
"I hope that people arrive with an open heart to celebrate our culture. Recife always gives me great affection and an energy that is difficult to explain. I want to see families, friends, couples, everyone singing together and living this moment with joy and respect. When we get together to celebrate northeastern culture, something very beautiful happens", he said.

"São João Gomes" is an event dedicated to culture and forró. Transforming the place into a big June party, the singer presents the show of the album "Pé de Serrita", recorded in the city that gives the project its name, in the Sertão of Pernambuco, where the artist was born and where his grandmother's house is located.
In addition to João Gomes, the main stage will receive performances by Mestrinho and Escola de Oito Baixos de Caruaru. The event will also feature a gastronomy and crafts fair. In total, the structure will cover approximately 1.2 kilometers in length.
The public will be able to watch parades of June gangs, groups of blunderbusses, oxen and other cultural events. The processions will leave Praça do Pilar towards the covered courtyard of Cais do Sertão, which will be transformed into a "quadrilhodrome" for the presentations.
Among the confirmed attractions are the June gangs Amigos do Furacão, Raio de Sol Mirim and Raio de Sol. Representing the groups of blunderbusses, the Sociedade dos Bacamarteiros do Cabo will participate.
At Praça do Pilar, an area dedicated to children will be set up, with an inflatable park and recreational activities for children. The Malakoff Tower will host a special program focused on the fife and the musical traditions of the northeastern interior, with performances by the Zabumba Fife Band of Mestre Chimba and João do Pife and Banda Dois Irmãos.
On the side of Cais do Sertão, a fair for local entrepreneurs will bring together more than 50 operations linked to the creative economy, crafts and gastronomy.
