The victim was identified as Lorena Giovana Silva Luz. The case was registered in a police report at the Mossoró Police Station. The Civil Police must investigate the circumstances of what happened, including how the girl had access to the pool and what the supervision conditions were at the time of the incident. In a statement to the Police, the school director reported that she was with another class rehearsing a square dance when she heard a teacher calling for the child. Employees started looking for the girl and found her in the institution's swimming pool. According to the statement, the teacher responsible for the class reported that the child disappeared from sight while she was changing other children's diapers. Still according to the director, the child was removed from the water and received cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers. The team then called for medical assistance. During the journey to a health unit, the employees found the ambulance that had been called, and the care began to be provided by the medical team. The municipal management highlighted the commotion caused by Lorena's death and expressed solidarity with her family and friends. Lorena was the granddaughter of the former vice-mayor of Tibau, José Francisco da Silva, known as Padeca, and niece of councilor Otávio Faustino da Silva Neto.
