Rope jump: previous jumps from where a young man died go viral on the networks
The death of Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, who was thrown from a bridge without being attached to safety ropes during a rope jump, sparked discussions about the sport. Although it is not prohibited in Brazil, the practice does not have specific federal rules. g1 listened to experts to explain what the legislation says and what precautions must be observed before hiring the service. (See details below)
Attached to a static rope, the participant jumps from great heights and experiences minutes of free fall and adrenaline. When reaching the end of the rope, the person starts to swing from side to side, like a pendulum.
Despite not having national regulation, the practice is not illegal and is carried out for prices ranging between R$90 and R$500.

The president of the Brazilian Rope Jump Association, Marco Jota, classified what happened to the 21-year-old as "bizarre". To g1, he stated that accidents in sport are the exception and that there are rules for the safety and well-being of the participant.
According to the president, the sensation of jumping can be described as an explosion of endorphins and serotonin and generates an inexplicable state of ecstasy.

Unregulated but not prohibited
In Brazil, rope jumping does not have specific federal regulations, but it is not prohibited either. According to legislation, as there is no express prohibition, the practice itself is not illegal, and other legislation begins to operate within the modality.
🔎Regulation is when there is regulation of standards and everything that must occur in that modality or segment. In these cases, every time it is practiced, the same rules must be followed.
Lawyer Carolina Zullo, president of the Sports Law Commission of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) Campinas, explained to g1 that although there is no specific law for the activity, there are international safety standards that must be followed, which deal with adventure tourism and equipment.
"These sports have international standards. For example, football has international standards that everyone has to follow, but in the weekend match, you do it the way you want. But in this one, you cannot give up on certain aspects", explained the lawyer.

She clarified that the three instructors who were arrested were not accused of practicing unregulated sport, but rather because they are suspected of murder. With safety standards, according to her, they could practice the activity for years without legal problems.
Furthermore, Zullo also explained that the country has enough laws to punish and guide extreme sports without regulation regardless of a specific standard for jumping, such as:
Consumer Protection Code;
Penal Code;
Sports Laws and Codes of Ethics.
How do you know if the company is safe?
Before making any appointment, the practitioner must certify the suitability of the organizing group. According to Marco Jota, it is necessary to check whether the company has:
Active CNPJ;
mandatory registration in the Cadastur of the Ministry of Tourism;
valid civil liability insurance policy;
the "Safe Rope Jump Seal" issued by the Brazilian association of the sport.
"The seal is to show everyone that the company has all its operators accredited, has all the necessary training, operates correctly, and has never had any accidents. A company that has had an accident is not even eligible for the seal", explained Marco Jota.
According to the president, currently, only three companies have the Safe Rope Jump Seal: one in São Paulo (SP), one in Limeira (SP) and another in Rio de Janeiro (SP).
In addition, professionals must have specific instructor courses in rope jumping, extreme activities and pre-hospital care (APH). At the location, which must have authorization from the public authorities or the owner of the bridge or viaduct, protection depends on the organization.
The most vital protocol is double checking: an instructor equips the client and a second professional checks all the material before release.

What are the recommendations?
The rope jump system uses static climbing ropes and carabiners designed to transform the fall into a swing. Mandatory individual items include a helmet, connecting carabiner, harness and a harness attached to it.
In addition to the technical part, the practitioner must follow strict personal guidelines for the day of the event. Preparation requires the following precautions:
Food: it is essential to eat before going. According to Marco Jota, the adrenaline rush consumes a lot of glucose and jumping while fasting can cause hypoglycemia and fainting;
Clothing: It is recommended to wear comfortable clothes and sneakers. Skirts prevent the use of the car seat and very rigid jeans impede movement.

Woman dies after being thrown from a rope jump without a rope in the interior of SP
The video circulating on social media shows Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas being carried by three employees to the edge of the Skeletor Bridge. She is propelled forward and, shortly after the fall, screams of despair are heard saying "the rope" and "people, the rope" — watch above.
The young woman fell from a height of 40 meters and was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Civil Police, the equipment that should have been attached to the victim's body to arrest the fall was forgotten and remained rolled up on the floor of the jump structure.
A witness reported that the instructors did not carry out a safety check when the young woman jumped.
Initially, six people were detained, but only three instructors remain in prison. The suspects are Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff, 32 years old; Vitor de Freitas Gonçalves, 27 years old; and Maicon Fernandes Cintra, 42 years old. On Sunday (14), the court converted their arrest into preventive custody.
The group responsible for the activity did not have a formal company, according to the police. The delegate responsible for the case stated that the men appeared bewildered and claimed not to remember who was responsible for placing the rope, nor why the final inspection was not carried out before pushing the victim.
The defense lawyer, Rafael Gomes dos Santos, stated that the three clients are passionate about the sport, have been playing for years and have never had any problems. He classified the case as a "sad fatality".
Santos also highlighted that rope jumping is not regulated, but it is also not prohibited, and that similar events have already been held on Ponte do Esqueleto without intervention from public authorities.
