Vice postulator of the beatification cause Father Evandro Stefanello
Around 15 thousand people participated in the beatification ceremony of Father Nazareno Lanciotti, in Jauru (MT), this Saturday (13). Now recognized as blessed by the Catholic Church, the next step for him to be declared a saint will be the recognition of a miracle attributed to his intercession after beatification.
To g1, the vice-postulator of the beatification cause and judicial vicar of the Ecclesiastical Court of Cuiabá, Father Evandro Stefanello, explained that canonization requires the opening of a new process, conditioned on the recognition of a miracle.
"The beatification ends here. For canonization, even in the case of martyrdom -- killed out of hatred for the faith -- it is necessary that a miracle be recognized through the intercession of the blessed Father Nazareno Lanciotti. Only after that does the canonization process begin", he stated.

One of the main curiosities of Father Nazareno's beatification is that the process did not require proof of a miracle. This is because canon law provides two paths to sainthood: which requires a proven miracle; and the second is the path of martyrdom, applied to the Italian missionary for having been killed out of hatred for the faith.
Reports and time criteria
According to Stefanello, the Church has already received several reports of graces attributed to the religious, but they cannot be used in the next stage.
"We have many reports of miracles through the intercession of Father Nazareno. However, the miracle that will serve for canonization needs to happen and be confirmed after the beatification. The previous reports served to prove his reputation for holiness", he said.

Our Lady of Pilar Parish
Born in Rome, Italy, in 1940, Father Nazareno Lanciotti arrived in Jauru in 1972, where he dedicated almost three decades to evangelization and social actions. Founder of the Nossa Senhora do Pilar Parish, he stood out for defending the most vulnerable and denouncing crimes such as sexual exploitation, drug trafficking and violence against children and adolescents.
In 2001, he was shot inside his home by armed men and died days later. After a long investigation process, the Vatican recognized that his death occurred as a result of his Christian faith and mission, characterizing his martyrdom.
