A cake in honor of Saint Anthony was sold for R$50,500 last Friday night (12) during a fundraising auction held by the Parish of Saint Anthony in Quixeramobim, in the interior of Ceará, a municipality that has the saint as its patron saint.
The cake had two floors and was around 1.8 meters long and was bought by a local entrepreneur, known as Baixinho do Parque, who runs a traveling amusement park.

Baixinho is known in the city for having won the cake for several years in a row, but in the last two years he had not achieved the feat. After winning the 2026 contest, he celebrated on the event stage. "I work to do what I like and spend what I earn, it's not for saving, money saved is worthless. I want to play", said Baixinho.
The auction is part of the celebrations of Saint Anthony's Day, celebrated this Saturday, June 13th. The program includes thirteen days of masses, processions, fairs and other activities. The auction was attended by faithful, businesspeople, politicians and the city's mayor, Cirilo Pimenta (PT), who congratulated Baixinho.

📍Parish auctions are traditional in the interior of Ceará and generally take place during novenas of patron saints. The faithful usually donate auction items, called "gifts", which range from food, animals to household appliances. Items are usually sold at higher prices than they would normally sell for, as a way of helping the parish raise funds.
This Saturday morning (13), the Baixinho amusement park profile on social media announced that the cake would be shared among the population. "We thank the entire population of Quixeramobim who were present, contributing and keeping this beautiful tradition of faith, unity and solidarity alive. May Saint Anthony continue to bless all families, bringing peace, health and prosperity", he published.
According to the parish, the amount raised from the gift auction is used both to support parish activities and in charitable works carried out by the church in the region.
Cake as tradition and tribute
In addition to the cake, other gifts were also auctioned, such as pies and chickens. However, in recent years the Santo Antônio cake has gained status as the main piece of the auction, being sold for high prices.
In 2023, the cake was sold for R$40.4 thousand. In 2024, the value reached R$50.1 thousand. In 2025, it stood at R$50,000, and has now risen to R$50,500, considered a new record. The record-breaking cake was made by pastry chef Nayara Almeida, who has worked in the sector for 19 years.

This is the second year in a row that Nayara has prepared the Saint Anthony cake, which is usually ordered by the faithful and donated to the parish for the auction. "I find this participation of the faithful, the population, the businesspeople who are there bidding very interesting. This whole game is very exciting. And so, I was very moved, very happy for the value," said Nayara to g1.
This year's cake had two layers and a buttery white dough and brigadeiro filling. To prepare it, it took 20 kilos of wheat dough, 180 eggs, 14 kilos of fondant and 18 kilos of ganache. The bottom of the cake was 1.8m long, while the top was 80cm x 60cm.
On top of the cake there was an image of Saint Anthony and an image of the city's main church, made of resin, for the winner of the auction to keep as a souvenir. Due to its size, the confectioner was unable to weigh the sweet, but four men were needed to lift it. The people were transported from the bakery to the parish in the back of a pickup truck.
Nayara says that she accepted the challenge of producing the cake over the last two years in honor of her grandmother, Dona Marica, who used to take her to the feast of Saint Anthony. Her grandmother passed away about two years ago and, today, lends her name to Nayara's confectionery.
"I was always with her, following the Santo Antônio festivities, the early morning walks, and I always really liked this area of the confectionery. And when I started working in the confectionery part, she always went to the auctions, looked at the cakes, and then said: 'If you did it, it would look better'", recalls Nayara. "Last year, as I no longer had her here [...], I decided to accept the challenge of making the cake, always with the thought that if she were here, she would love seeing the work I did"
