Litany of Saint Anthony brings together faith, roses and tradition in the procession of the Boi Garantido through the streets of Parintins. Sergio Cole Boi Garantido performed, on Friday night (12), the traditional Ladainha de Santo Antônio, in Parintins, reaffirming one of the oldest and most symbolic manifestations in the history of the red and white ox. The celebration, held annually on Valentine's Day, brought together residents, fans and devotees in a procession marked by prayers, religious songs and the traditional distribution of roses. The program began in Quilombo da Baixa, considered the birthplace of Garantido, and covered the city's streets in an act that mixes religiosity, memory and popular culture. According to the ox, the tradition has been maintained since 1943 and represents one of the promises left by founder Lindolfo Monteverde. During the route, one of the most anticipated moments was the delivery of roses to women and couples. The gesture, already incorporated into the emotional calendar of the red and white nation, symbolizes affection, respect and appreciation of love. 📲 Join the g1 AM channel on WhatsApp Now on g1 For the president of Boi Garantido, Fred Goes, the litany represents the essence of bumbá's history and reinforces the institution's ties with its origins. "The Litany of Saint Anthony is the real Guarantee, from scratch. It's the promise of our founder Lindolfo taking to the streets, it's the people praying together, it's the faith that has sustained our ox for over 80 years. Preserving this tradition means honoring each player who came before us", he stated. Memory of the pioneers The emotion also marked the participation of members of the Monteverde family, responsible for founding Garantido. Daughter of Lindolfo Monteverde, Maria do Carmo Monteverde recalled the origins of devotion to the June saints and the importance of the tradition for the family history. According to her, the connection with Saint Anthony is directly related to the faith cultivated by ancestors and the promises that gave rise to celebrations that spanned generations. "Respect for Saint Anthony comes from our family. My mother's name was Antônia and, when my father started celebrating Saint John the Baptist, he followed my grandmother's instructions. It's a great joy. I remember everything I experienced when I was a child. In 1943, at just six years old, I saw Garantido start to go out on the streets, fulfilling this promise that became a beautiful tradition", he recalled. The Litany of Saint Anthony is considered by Garantido to be a way of preserving the memory and values that marked the founding of the ox. More than a religious celebration, the ritual keeps alive the cultural heritage left by Lindolfo Monteverde and reinforces the bonds between different generations of fans on the eve of the Parintins Festival.
