After dispute, Government of RJ and Rio City Hall announce 'experimental buses' between Mesquita and Terminal Margaridas
The Government of Rio and the capital's city hall will begin the third stage of integration between intercity transport and Rio's BRT system this weekend.
Starting on Sunday (14), three more intercity lines originating in Nilópolis, Belford Roxo and Queimados will have their destination at the BRT Metropolitano Pedro Fernandes (“Margaridas”) Terminal, in Irajá, speeding up travel between Baixada Fluminense and the city of Rio. The service expansion ceremony will take place this Saturday (13), with an inaugural trip.
In this new stage, lines 516I (Km 2.5 of BR-116 x Nilópolis via Terminal Margaridas) will now serve the terminal, departing at Rua Maria Soares, close to the Grande Rio shopping mall; 718I (Nova Aurora x BRT Metropolitano Terminal), departing near the old José Gonçalves Gandra Terminal, in Belford Roxo; and 441I (Queimados x Terminal BRT Metropolitano), leaving from Avenida Irmãos Guinle. The lines have a single fare of R$6.70 - defined by DetroRJ - and will operate daily, with average intervals of 20 minutes on the Belford Roxo and Queimados services, and 30 minutes on the Nilópolis line. On weekends, departures will take place every 40 minutes, on both routes.
The first times will be at 4:15 am, on the Queimados line; and at 6:20 am, on the Nilópolis and Belford Roxo lines, running until 10 pm. With this expansion, 19 intercity lines are now integrated into the Metropolitan BRT.
The technical-operational director of Detro/RJ, Carlos Oliveira, considers the expansion an important step for mobility in Rio de Janeiro.
"This expansion represents a better quality of life for the population. We are expanding a solution that reduces travel time, generates savings for passengers and strengthens the connection between the municipal and inter-municipal transport systems. Today, more than 60% of Baixada residents work in Rio de Janeiro, which demonstrates the impact that this initiative can have on the routine of thousands of people", he highlighted.
With the expansion, all municipalities located along Via Dutra will now be served by the Bilhete Único Margaridas (BUM) integration model. The benefit allows the passenger to use an intercity line in Baixada and carry out integrations with the BRT, VLT and municipal lines in Rio for a total cost of R$ 18.40 for the round trip, in a usage window of up to 20 hours.
The measure is carried out in partnership with Rio City Hall and should reduce the average travel time by half. To access the benefit, the passenger must board one of the intercity lines, at Terminal Margaridas, and from there access the specific turnstiles using the Jaé card or application with a linked CPF.
To ensure the smooth running of the operation, Detro/RJ is permanently monitoring the model through a monitoring room installed in the terminal itself. The space has the presence of inspectors and an ombudsman team, who are available to answer questions and register any complaints. In case of a complaint, it is also possible to contact the OuvERJ portal using the link or call directly on (21) 3883-4141, which is open on weekdays, from 9am to 5pm.
