A week after realizing a dream and getting married after 10 years of stable union, Maria Josiane Silva da Cruz, aged 42, died on June 4th. Born in Guajará, Amazonas, Maria came with Cleuciano to the capital of Acre around six months ago to begin cancer treatment.

According to the husband, the desire for marriage was something that had existed for a long time, but was never fulfilled due to lack of opportunity. The decision was made after a conversation between the couple and motivated by Maria's desire to be able to fully participate in the activities of the church they attend.
"She came to me and said: 'My love, we need to get married'. She wanted to tell her testimony in church and participate in Holy Communion, but we weren't married. That's when I made the decision", he described.

How the ceremony was organized
After communicating their desire to the support team and the psychologist responsible for monitoring Maria, the ceremony was organized quickly and involved professionals from the High Complexity Oncology Unit (Unacon), as well as members of the Casa de Apoio Amigos do Peito who provided legal support for issuing the necessary documents for the civil marriage.
"The association helped a lot, especially the psychologist. They also had help with the legal issue, because we needed the second copy of documents. The people went after it and managed to resolve everything. It was a wish that she wanted to fulfill. In 24 hours they resolved the situation", he explained.
Accompanied by professionals from the health unit, she made her way through the hospital corridors until she found her loved one. Even though she was weak, the smile on her face showed the joy and excitement of living a moment she dreamed of ten years ago. "It was very exciting. It was her dream and also mine. It was fulfilled", he added.

Faith and hope
Cleuciano followed his wife's treatment from the moment the disease was discovered. With her for more than 20 days in the Unacon emergency room, he stated that the ceremony represented a moment of hope in the midst of treatment.
"I believe that God can do all the things that are within his power. This marriage was a wonder for us", he declared.
Without the presence of family members due to the distance and financial difficulties, the ceremony took place in a simple way, with just the participation of the couple and the support of the hospital team.
Even given his beloved's delicate health situation, Cleuciano says that the wedding brought emotional comfort to the couple. “It was her dream come true,” he concluded.
