The presence of the El Niño phenomenon has once again established itself in the Pacific Ocean and is expected to gain intensity in the coming months, possibly reaching strong intensity during the spring of 2026, according to the Climate Prediction Center of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), developed in cooperation with the American Space Agency (NASA), released this Thursday (11).

According to meteorology, this Friday, the instability will lose strength and rain showers with occasional thunderstorms are expected to occur in the east of Santa Catarina and in other areas of the South. Accumulations vary between 15 millimeters (mm) and 60 mm in 24 hours.
Wind gusts between 40 and 60 km/h are also forecast throughout the day. Minimum temperatures vary between 10°C in the Southern Plateau of Rio Grande do Sul and 20°C in the North of Paraná and the Northeast of Rio Grande do Sul and West of Santa Catarina.
Between dawn and Saturday morning (13), the instability moves away from the South region, but still influences the occurrence of light and isolated rain, mainly in the east of the states. There is a forecast of frost in areas of Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná, accompanied by fog.
The Santa Catarina Civil Defense Secretariat predicts this Friday (12) intense rain and storms, due to the cold front, which advances through the state associated with a low pressure system, which intensifies at sea, giving rise to an extratropical cyclone.
Southeast Region
This Friday (12), the presence of instability in areas of the West and Southwest of São Paulo could cause thunderstorms with lightning, gusts of wind, intense rain, accompanied by hail. Instability intensifies in Rio de Janeiro and part of Minas Gerais, causing rain showers in Espírito Santo.
On Saturday (13), throughout the dawn and morning, there will be storms with rain, possible hail, electrical discharges and gusts of wind in the State of Rio and on the borders with Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais. The rain loses strength throughout the afternoon.
Midwest Region
For Friday (12), rain is forecast for all states and the Federal District. The rain may be more intense between the morning and afternoon, in Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Goiás. There is a possibility of hail between the center-north and east of Mato Grosso do Sul.
For Saturday (13), it may still rain throughout the region, reaching greater intensity between Mato Grosso, in Vale do Aporé, on the border with São Paulo, and Goiás. Less intense rain is forecast for the center of Goiás, including the Federal District, and the north of Mato Grosso.
North Region
For Friday (12), areas of instability are expected to form in the region that favor the occurrence of rain showers that may be accompanied by isolated thunderstorms.
The biggest accumulations are expected for the northwest of Amazonas, with intense rains, which could also reach the south of Pará. The state of Tocantins will remain with stable weather, predominantly sunny and no rain.
For Saturday (13), conditions remain similar, with greater accumulations expected for the northwest of Amazonas.
Northeast Region
For Friday (12) and Saturday (13), the rain forecast is mainly concentrated on the coastal strip that stretches from Maranhão to the north of Alagoas.
Isolated rains are expected in this area. The other areas of the Northeast have a forecast of firm weather with a predominance of sunshine, with maximum temperatures reaching 36ºC, in the states of Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte and Paraíba.
