According to the ministry, the measure is necessary after the country reaches the collective limit of 90% of the authorized quota for the 2026 fishing season.

Fishermen are caught with 350 kg of pink shrimp during the closed season.
The quota of 8,168 tons was defined in a joint decree between the Ministries of Fisheries and the Environment.
“The measure has a preventive nature and aims to avoid exceeding the catch quota established for the sport”, informed the ministry.
According to the ministry's guidelines, boats at sea must unload the fish within 24 hours of capture.
After the period, fishermen will be able to resume fishing for other species.
The procedure adopted by the ministry was consolidated based on information contained in the Mullet Fishing Season Monitoring Panel.
By law, fishing companies must report to the government the amount of fish that was removed from the sea.
