Facade Federal University of Uberlândia UFU 2024 Playback/TV Integration The Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU) occupies the 1,283rd position among more than 21 thousand higher education institutions evaluated around the world by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR). The result represents an increase of 11 places compared to last year and places UFU as the 28th best university in Brazil and the 46th in Latin America. According to Maíra Sueco Maegava Córdula, president of the Commission for Monitoring the Release of UFU Institutional Data in University Rankings, the commitment to academic excellence, scientific development and internationalization of the university may have contributed to the institution's performance. "UFU has, over the years, made institutional efforts to participate in public notices to encourage internationalization and research at our institution. This type of participation promotes the development of activities that can generate positive results in the indicators of international rankings", detailed the professor. ✅ Click here to follow the g1 Triângulo channel on WhatsApp According to the university, the main highlight was the performance in scientific production. In the Research indicator, UFU reached 1,237th place worldwide. The criterion considers the total volume of publications, the presence of researchers in prestigious international journals, the influence of articles on global debates and the number of citations received by the academic community. "International recognition is a stimulus for the academic community to continue developing its actions. Furthermore, the rankings can make visible the daily work carried out in research, teaching and society, demonstrating, through a global assessment, the local and international impact of our university." In addition to UFU's performance, the ranking revealed that, among the 52 Brazilian universities classified in the survey, 45 lost positions. Two others maintained their positions, and only five advanced — among them, the Minas Gerais institution. Although it is not possible to pinpoint a specific cause for the drop in performance observed in most Brazilian institutions, Maíra assesses that the issue of investments may be a relevant factor. "It is important to highlight that high-level teaching, research and extension, such as those carried out by Brazilian universities, require investment. Therefore, we can consider that future fluctuations can be prevented with continuous financial support and investments in higher education institutions", concluded the professor.
