Many serious negligence are coming to light in the investigation of the massive fire incident in the 5-storey Flourish Stay Hotel located in Malviya Nagar, Delhi. Police arrested the hotel's co-owner Lavkesh Bajaj late on Wednesday night. He told the police that the work of the hotel was handled by other people. According to sources, Bajaj said that he himself did not monitor the hotel. He had given the work of hotel management, billing and accounts to someone else. He also said that enlargement of rooms and other changes in the hotel had also been suggested by someone else. Bajaj claimed that the person giving advice had told him – all these modifications in the hotel are normal and everything is fine in Delhi. Bajaj has also admitted that the hotel did not have a fire NOC. Police are now checking construction approvals, electricity connections and other records. 22 people have died in this accident, of which 11 are foreigners and 11 are Indian citizens. Many are injured. The entire family of Vivek Aggarwal, a chartered accountant from Gurugram, was burnt to ashes in the fire. Vivek had told a relative on the phone amidst the fire – Brother, perhaps we will not be able to survive. Sealed windows, one entry-exit, no chance to escape. Preliminary investigation has revealed that this hotel was approved for 6 rooms under the 'Bed and Breakfast' scheme, but built more than 25 rooms on 5 floors. There was only one way to reach the hotel. Most of the hotel's windows were closed or sealed. According to Delhi Fire Service, the fire started from the items kept near the stairs of the ground floor and within a few minutes the smoke spread throughout the building. This made it very difficult for people to go out. LPG cylinders were also found in the hotel during the rescue operation. Hearing the screams, someone spread mattresses, someone broke the windows. Eyewitnesses said, the fire broke out at 8:30 in the morning. The sensor based main gate was closed. However its investigation is ongoing. Before the fire brigade arrived, the local people had started rescuing. Arman, who runs a blanket-mattress shop in front of the hotel, had taken out all the new mattresses and quilts from the shop and spread them on the road. Arman said, many people fell on these mattresses from the upper floors of the hotel, which helped save their lives. Many people broke the glass, due to which the people trapped inside came out. Local youth Afzal, Shahrukh, Anees, Aamir and Wasim also gave CPR to at least 10 people.
