As the heat wave and heavy rain continued in July, school safety was also put on high alert. The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education is making every effort to prepare through the school safety accident forecasting system. According to the City Office of Education on the 14th, the Seoul School Safety Mutual Aid Association recently notified schools of the ‘School Safety Accident Forecast System’ safety rules for heat waves and heavy rain. Over the past three years, the number of heat wave days concentrated in July and August has been increasing, with 12 days in 2023, 16 days in 2024, and 18 days in 2025, and heat waves have lasted for more than 11 days for three consecutive years. The Mutual Aid Association pointed out that the risk of heat stroke is high during outdoor activities such as physical education classes, and that heat accumulation in school facilities can increase students' physical fatigue. In particular, he emphasized that heat waves, the number one cause of casualties from natural disasters over the past 10 years, are rapidly increasing, with 85 casualties in 2023 and 108 in 2024, so preemptive preventive measures in schools are essential. The mutual aid association has four prevention rules to prevent safety accidents during heat waves: ▲ Refrain from outdoor activities and rest in the shade ▲ Drink water often even if you are not thirsty ▲ Immediately report any physical abnormalities such as dizziness.
