On the 9th, the 3rd Division of the Supreme Court (Chief Justice Sook-yeon Lee) confirmed the original trial sentence of former President Yoon to 7 years in prison, saying, “There was no error in misunderstanding the legal principles in the lower court’s judgment” in the appeal trial on former President Yoon’s charge of obstruction of special official duties. This is the first Supreme Court conclusion among the eight criminal trials former President Yoon is undergoing. The court said, “There is no problem” with former President Yoon’s claim that the Corruption Investigation Office’s investigation was illegal. The court also mentioned Article 84 of the Constitution, which stipulates that the president shall not be subject to criminal trials while in office, except for rebellion and foreign exchange crimes, and nailed it, saying, “Even if criminal prosecution is prohibited while in office, it cannot be said that even investigations are completely prohibited.” He continued, “Former President Yoon’s treason charges were also recognized during the investigation into abuse of power.
