A bill to revise the Personal Information Protection Act, which includes relaxing regulations on the acquisition of personal information in order to promote the development of AI, was passed by a special committee of the House of Councilors with a majority of votes from the Liberal Democratic Party, the Ishin Party, the Democratic Party of Japan, and Team Mirai. In order to promote the development of AI, the proposed amendment would ease regulations on the acquisition of personal information, while imposing fines on businesses that violate the rights of individuals, such as by selling large amounts of personal information for profit.
