A man in his 70s suffered burns after a fire broke out in the battery of an electric two-wheeler that was being charged in an apartment in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, and he tried to put out the fire. According to the Gimpo Fire Department on the 2nd, a report was received at 10:45 a.m. the previous day that a fire had started on the balcony of an apartment in Geolpo-dong, Gimpo-si. The fire was extinguished immediately without spreading into a large fire as the resident, Mr. A, in his 70s, extinguished the fire himself using a fire extinguisher. However, Mr. A suffered second-degree burns on the top of his feet during the firefighting process, and one other resident inhaled smoke. In addition, there was a commotion in which 37 apartment residents had to evacuate at one time. The fire department believes that the fire started from a battery of a two-wheeled vehicle that was being charged, and is investigating the exact cause and damage. A fire department official said, “The use of a fire extinguisher did not lead to a major fire,” and “The two injured people are not in serious danger to their lives.” (Gimpo = News 1)
