A man in his 40s who left a weapon in front of the home of independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon was sentenced to prison in a remand trial, but appealed the decision again. According to the legal community on the 30th, Mr. Hong, a man in his 40s, submitted an appeal on the 22nd to the 3rd Criminal Division of the Seoul High Court (Chief Judge Seung-han Lee), which heard the remand case on charges of special threats. On the 18th, the court of the cassation and remand trial sentenced Hong to one year in prison. Mr. Hong is accused of leaving a weapon and a ignition torch in front of the front door of a lawmaker's home in Gangnam-gu, Seoul in October 2023. It was investigated that he committed the crime as his delusion that he was being watched by lawmaker Han, who was the Minister of Justice at the time, became more severe. Both the first and second trials found Hong guilty of special threats and sentenced him to one year in prison. However, he was found not guilty on the stalking penalty charge. However, the Supreme Court acknowledged that Mr. Hong left a weapon at the front door, but deemed that the crime of special threats did not constitute a crime and sent the case back to the Seoul High Court in April. He actually threatened a lawmaker with a weapon.
