Without salaries, anesthetists stop activities in Belém and the Public Defender’s Office demands explanations The Public Defender's Office of the State of Pará (DPE) established a deadline of five working days for the Municipal Health Department (Sesma) to provide clarifications on the anesthetists' strike in Belém. The strike affects hospitals in the municipal network and units affiliated with the Unified Health System (SUS). According to the Labor Society of Anesthesiologists of Pará (Stap), around 120 professionals joined the movement, which started on June 1st, due to delays in payments. ✅ Follow the g1 Pará channel on WhatsApp The lack of doctors resulted in the suspension of elective surgeries at Hospital Ordem Terceira, Hospital Maradei, Beneficência Portuguesa and the Guamá Municipal Emergency Room. g1 requested a position from Sesma, but did not receive a response until the publication of this report. Cristino Martins / OLiberal In the letter sent to Sesma, the DPE's Specialized Assistance Center for Children and Adolescents (Naeca) requires detailed information about outstanding debts, the number of canceled procedures and the administrative measures adopted to regularize services. Crisis extends to other areas In addition to elective surgeries, the crisis affects the urgency and emergency gateway. At the Mário Pinotti Emergency Room, the PSM of March 14th, the delay in the transfer to outsourced companies suspended neurosurgery, traumatology and orthopedics care. Hospital employees also denounce that the system for issuing exam reports was blocked due to lack of payment. The company responsible for the imaging diagnosis service also threatens to shut down tomography, X-ray and electrocardiogram equipment. The stoppage of services worsens the situation of hospitalized patients. Housewife Elisângela Franco Cunha, 49 years old, was admitted to the PSM with an aneurysm and hemorrhage. Since then, her son, Gabriel Cunha, has been unsuccessfully trying to transfer him to a neurosurgery bed. The same affliction is experienced by Karla Moreira. Her husband suffered a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) and, even with a court order to transfer him to a specialized hospital, the measure was not complied with. "I want my husband to leave here, but not in a black bag", she said. Given the volume of complaints, the Federal Public Defender's Office (DPU) reported that actions against the city hall and Sesma could change scope. According to public defender Marcos Teixeira, the body is evaluating measures to directly hold public agents involved in health management accountable. VIDEOS: see all the news from Pará
