The Amazon will be at the center of the debate on science, innovation and access to markets during the webinar “Amazon Bioinnovation: Science, Market and Global Opportunities for R&D”, which takes place this Wednesday (17) virtually. One of the highlights of the program is the participation of anthropologist Eduardo S. Brondizio, one of the winners of the 2025 Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement, internationally considered the “Nobel of the Environment”.
Promoted by the Institute for Conservation and Sustainable Development of the Amazon (Idesam), the event brings together experts, researchers and representatives from the business sector to discuss the potential of the Amazon bioeconomy as a vector of sustainable development, innovation and generation of opportunities for the region.
The event will be held from 10am to 12pm (Brasília time), broadcast via the Zoom platform and the Idesam YouTube channel (@idesamico). Participation is free and will have simultaneous translation into Portuguese and English. Registration can be made up until the day of the event using the link provided by Idesam.

Brondizio is a professor at Indiana University, in the United States, and has been carrying out research with Amazonian communities on socio-environmental transformations and territorial governance for more than four decades.
The researcher was also co-chair of the Global Report of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), a document that contributed to the formulation of the goals of the United Nations Convention on Biodiversity.
Amazon bioeconomy highlighted
The initiative will present the Amazon bioeconomy as a strategic frontier for applied research, science-based innovation and the development of new products in the food, cosmetics and new materials sectors.
In addition to Eduardo Brondizio, the program will feature the participation of Romulo Zamberlan, director of Advanced Research at Natura, who will share experiences about business operations and innovation opportunities in the Amazon.
The topics discussed during the meeting converge on the international call coordinated by Idesam, through Zoma, the Amazon Bioinnovation Challenge, which is open for registration until June 30th.
Connection between science, market and forest
According to Paulo Simonetti, Innovation manager at Idesam and mediator of the webinar, the meeting seeks to bring different actors together around the transformative potential of the Amazon socio-bioeconomy.
"The Amazon brings together some of the biggest challenges and opportunities for innovation based on biodiversity. This webinar was designed precisely to connect researchers, companies and experts from different parts of the world to initiatives that are already being built in the region. We want to show that it is possible to generate knowledge, develop technologies and create solutions with a positive impact for people, territories and the forest", highlights Simonetti.
The webinar is open to the general public, but has a special focus on professionals working with research and development, innovation, product development, new businesses, food, cosmetics, biomaterials, natural ingredients, biotechnology, green chemistry, materials science and global chains linked to biodiversity.
The webinar is promoted by the Institute for Conservation and Sustainable Development of the Amazon (Idesam), through Zoma, and has the support of the Fundação Rede Amazônica.
