The Secretariat of Union Heritage (SPU), an entity of the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (MGI), is discussing the possible removal of the Esqueleto bridge, located on the border between the municipalities of Limeira and Cordeirópolis, in São Paulo, with local governments.
The positioning comes after young Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, aged 21, died at the scene, on the morning of last Saturday (13). The young resident of Jandira (SP) was lifted by instructors from a private company and thrown from the bridge, without being attached to the safety equipment ropes, from a height of around 40 meters.
Related news:
União had requested that the bridge be blocked before the death of a young man in a jump.
The jump would be in the rope jump mode, when a practitioner jumps into the void from very high places.
In a press release, the SPU reaffirmed that the transfer of ownership of the bridge to Patrimônio da União was made official in May this year and that it never authorized any activity on the site.

Meeting
This Monday (15), representatives from the Union's Heritage Secretariat and the Federal Attorney General's Office (AGU) were in the interior of São Paulo and met with the mayor of Cordeirópolis, Cristina Saad, and the mayor of Limeira, Murilo Felix (Podemos), and their teams.
The SPU confirmed that it will continue to discuss with local governments a definitive solution for the bridge, which could be "the eventual removal" of it.
The two city halls defended the demolition of the structure owned by the Union. According to a post on the social network by the manager of Cordeirópolis, Cristina Saad, this measure must be immediate.
After the meeting, Mayor Murilo Félix confirmed that the area presents risks that have been known for many years and that, even though it was closed, the construction continued to attract people.
“The implosion of the structure will be a definitive solution to prevent new incidents and guarantee the safety of the population,” he stated.
The mayor also asked for an investigation by the Federal Police into future activities published on social media.
Bridge blockade
Until a definitive solution for that heritage is reached, the federal and municipal governments combined actions to contain access to the bridge.
These include the installation of warning signs, blocking access through the installation of physical barriers and the reopening of ditches to prevent access to the structure.
At the meeting, Limeira city hall reported that the ditch that had been opened to prevent access to the site was later closed without the knowledge of its administration.
Access to the site constitutes a crime, as it is not an area with permitted public access.
