Accident leaves residents without electricity for almost 10 hours and exposes a rise in collisions with poles in An accident that happened on Monday morning (15), on Rua Miguel Herédia, in the Lapa neighborhood, in Campos dos Goytacazes, in the North of Rio de Janeiro, left residents without electricity for almost ten hours and raised awareness of a problem that has been growing in the municipality: vehicle collisions against poles. A car crashed into a pole and the force of the impact compromised the power grid, causing disruption that lasted for much of the day for residents in the region. According to Enel, the number of crashes grew by 55% in the city, increasing the risk of long periods without power and harm to the population. This type of incident goes far beyond the damage caused to the vehicle involved in the accident. Depending on the severity, the interruption in power supply can affect entire streets and even entire neighborhoods. 📱 Follow the g1 Norte Fluminense channel on WhatsApp. Men working on a pole that was hit by a car in Campos Enel Rio Numbers attract attention. Data released by the concessionaire shows that Campos recorded an increase in vehicle collisions against poles in the comparison between the first quarter of this year and the same period last year, placing the municipality among those with the highest growth in this type of occurrence in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The general data is also worrying. Between January and March this year, Enel recorded 104 accidents of this type in the 66 municipalities served by the concessionaire, an average of more than one collision per day. In total, around 30 thousand customers were impacted by the interruption in energy supply. In addition to the inconvenience for the population, the company warns that these crashes pose risks to both vehicle occupants and pedestrians and residents who are close to the accident site. To g1, Enel Rio's Medium and High Voltage coordinator, Leonardo Motta, explained the impacts of this type of occurrence. "Collision with poles is not just a danger for drivers and pedestrians, causing traffic disruption or a lack of power. A single collision can affect an entire street and even a neighborhood. Repairing and/or replacing a pole is a long process, which can take up to 12 hours of work. Our teams need to change the entire electrical network, which leaves customers without power for even longer", explained Leonardo Motta. Enel reinforces that, in cases of collision against poles, the advice is not to approach the structure, as there is a risk of electric shock, and immediately contact the concessionaire through official service channels. Drivers are also recommended to pay extra attention in traffic, as accidents of this type end up generating impacts that go far beyond the location of the crash and can compromise the energy supply for thousands of people.
