A bill to revise the Criminal Procedure Law to revise the retrial system was passed at a plenary session of the House of Representatives with a majority vote from both the Liberal Democratic Party and the Ishin Party as well as political parties, and was sent to the House of Councilors. With support from the participating parties, the bill is expected to reach a majority in the House of Councilors, making it highly likely that it will be enacted in the current Diet session.
