According to Lieutenant Colonel Rômulo Freitas, from the Tauá Fire Department, the other passengers only had abrasions, without serious injuries.

The vehicle was transporting the men's under-19 basketball team from the Associação Desportiva e Cultural de Juazeiro do Norte (ADEJU), which was returning from the city of Sobral, after winning the category's regional basketball competition. The group was heading to Juazeiro do Norte, the athletes' hometown.
To date, six victims have been identified: Marcos Miguel Henrique Ferreira Bezerra, João Paulo Sampaio, Luiz José de Morais, Cauã Rodrigues Fratta, Jonatas Samuel do Santos and Matheus Henrique Ferreira.
The authorities were called at around three in the morning, and the rescue action included agents from the Military Fire Department, Ceará Military Police, State Highway Police and other agents.
Authorities reported that most of the passengers had already managed to get out of the vehicle and were showing signs of shock. Only one person needed to be rescued from the wreckage of the bus.

Accident
The vehicle fell down an embankment in the road. The Forensic Expertise of the State of Ceará is working on the case, and according to the Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense (SSPDS) the driver of the vehicle provided clarifications to the police after leaving the hospital where he was taken.
The two initial lines of investigation would be mechanical failure or error made by the driver. Information indicates that passengers were not wearing seat belts, and at least 30 people needed medical attention.
