The population of Natal gained a new public radio station with the start of broadcasts on Rádio IFRN FM, linked to the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN). On dial 95.3 FM, the station will have programming focused on education, science, culture and citizenship. The radio is the result of a partnership between the institute and Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC), which began in December 2023. On the occasion, IFRN and 15 other federal institutes signed a cooperation agreement with the EBC for the implementation of 49 new educational FM stations in different regions of the country, aiming to strengthen the National Public Communication Network (RNCP). Luciana Moreno, manager of the National Public Radio Communication Network, believes that the broadcaster will allow the activities developed by IFRN to reach new audiences. "Federal institutes produce knowledge, innovation and culture in different regions of the country. Rádio IFRN FM creates a new window to publicize this work and promote the exchange of content between Rio Grande do Norte and the public communication network." The manager attended the inauguration ceremony on Friday (12), in Natal, alongside José Arnóbio de Araújo Filho, rector of IFRN; the Secretary of Professional and Technological Education of the MEC, Marcelo Bregagnoli; and the coordinator of Rádio IFRN, Edivânia Duarte. For the rector of IFRN, the radio becomes a channel for direct dialogue between IFRN and society. "I am grateful for the partnership between EBC, MEC and IFRN for providing Rio Grande do Norte with an educational radio station. That we can, in addition to national programming, produce and broadcast quality content about what happens in the state and also about the actions that the Institute develops in teaching, research and extension", he highlighted. >> Follow the Agência Brasil channel on WhatsApp To enable Radio IFRN to go on air, there was an investment of R$ 1,275,000.00 from the Ministry of Education, through the Secretariat of Professional and Technological Education (Setec/MEC). The EBC provided technical support to the project, including the preparation of engineering studies and dialogue with the Ministry of Communications and the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) for the licensing and implementation of the station. The expectation is that the IFRN FM Radio signal will reach more than 1.4 million inhabitants in 28 municipalities in Rio Grande do Norte. In addition to local production, the programming will feature content from Rádio Nacional and Rádio MEC, public broadcasters that are part of the EBC communication system. Coordinator Edivânia Duarte highlights the initiative as an achievement for Rio Grande do Norte. “The Radio seeks to further expand IFRN’s dialogue with society in the process of civic and democratic formation.”
