Biomedical doctor Josiane Francischini Pereira classifies as disorganized the actions of the company responsible for the rope jump that ended in the death of student Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas last Saturday (13) in Limeira (SP).
According to her, there was no fixed person responsible for each stage of the process, including checking the equipment.
"When we got there, the main girl was there to welcome you, put on your wristbands and give you a password. Then there was a line more or less, poorly organized, there wasn't a fixed person to put the equipment in correctly. Every hour one would come, they would take turns. Then some would go to eat, lay down there to rest and come back. So, we noticed that it was disorderly there. But as we were the last ones, we thought that, 'ah, they had been here since morning, so everything is calm’, he says.

Josiane is from Serrana (SP) and was at Ponte do Esqueleto at the end of May to jump with her husband. The same instructors involved in Maria Eduarda's death helped the couple in practice.
“As we were the last ones, we ended up creating more connection there with them, talking, even though the day before they asked us not to talk to the rope operators, so they wouldn't lose their attention at any time”, he says.
In the audio received by Josiane the day before with instructions for the jump, the company employee reinforces the request that practitioners not talk to the rope operators under any circumstances.
“Guys, another very important point to pay attention to here, okay? Please do not talk to the rope operator. When you get there, you will see that the rope operators are isolated with a cone. Don't start a conversation with him, don't ask him anything, don't take his attention. The rope operators are caring for and protecting your lives. Do not distract the operator. Whoever has the rope in their hand operating the ropes cannot talk. Please do not talk to the rope operator.”

The biomedical doctor says that her husband has training in industrial electrical work, which led him to ask several questions about the safety equipment to give his wife more peace of mind when jumping.
“They said it was safe, they explained that it had two carabiners that attached to two ropes. So, like, there was kind of a spare rope in case one broke, and each rope supports more than a thousand kilos”, he says.
According to Josiane, the choice of the company for the jump was made by her husband. On Instagram, the profile had around 50 thousand followers and there was no suspicion from the couple about the contracted service.
“They were professionals on WhatsApp. We made the appointment, the payment. A week before they put together a group with everyone who is going to jump, around 90 people to 95, more or less. And after that, they set up groups according to schedules, so that we can arrive and not have to wait so long,” he says.
He thought the video was a lie
The biomedical doctor learned about the tragedy involving Maria Eduarda on Saturday, around noon. Josiane received a video made by a man who had hired the jump service on the same day as her, but gave up and returned at the weekend.
“We thought it was a lie. A young man in our group was unable to jump that day due to fear and it was on the same date as what happened. He sent it practically as soon as it happened. When I watched it, something hit my stomach, I couldn't even eat it. I felt like I was in the girl's place, because we were there less than a month ago. ”
The tragedy
A video circulating on social media shows Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas being carried by three employees to the edge of the platform. She was thrown and, shortly after the fall, there were cries of despair saying "the rope" and "guys, the rope".
The young woman fell from a height of 40 meters and was pronounced dead at the scene by teams from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) and the Fire Department.
According to the Civil Police, the thick equipment that should have been attached to the victim's body to arrest the fall was forgotten and remained rolled up on the bridge floor.
A witness, who would jump right after the young woman, reported that the instructors did not carry out a safety check when Maria Eduarda was there.
According to witnesses and the Civil Police, there was a serious failure in checking the equipment and the instructors simply forgot to connect the security system in Maria Eduarda.
The three instructors were arrested. In a statement to the police, they were unable to explain the reason for the error. The delegate responsible for the case stated that they appeared bewildered and claimed not to remember who was responsible for placing the rope, nor why the final inspection had not been carried out before pushing the victim.
