This Monday (15), Brazil now has a network to protect and defend the rights of elderly people. The purpose is to strengthen coordination between different levels of government and entities in promoting public policies aimed at this population.
According to Ordinance No. 1,058/2026, from the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship, the network will aim to promote coordinated actions to ensure access to rights, based on the principles of equity, non-discrimination and respect for the diversity of aging stages.

Joining the network will be voluntary and the institution will be responsible for the costs arising from its participation.
Among the network’s responsibilities are:
promoting cooperative federalism;
encouraging the development of diagnoses on the aging of the population;
strengthening social participation;
support for forums and entities dedicated to defending the rights of elderly people.
The coordination of the initiative will be the responsibility of the National Secretariat for the Rights of the Elderly, in partnership with the National Council for the Rights of the Elderly.
The ordinance also establishes that participants must share information, monitor public policies and present action plans in line with the network's guidelines.
