Civil Police investigate death of young man during jump in the interior of SP This Sunday's Fantástico (14) covered the death of a young woman during a bungee jump in Cordeirópolis (SP). The report revealed excerpts of the statements given to the Civil Police by the three employees arrested in the case. They stated that they did not remember who was responsible for installing and checking the safety rope before the jump. See the video above. Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, aged 21, died after being thrown from a bridge without being attached to safety equipment. Images recorded by witnesses show the moment the young woman is lifted and thrown by the instructors, but without the rope connected to her body. In a statement to the Civil Police, one of the prisoners, Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff, said that they charged R$180 per jump. He also stated that the team did not follow a fixed division of functions during the jumps and that equipment was checked in a shared manner. "Sometimes we don't put it in, someone else checks, another checks, another puts it in. Sometimes one does it, the other comes and sees if it's right. It was more or less that," he said. Asked by investigators whether he was responsible for installing the safety equipment or carrying out the final inspection before Maria Eduarda's jump, Luis Felipe replied that he didn't remember. Another arrested instructor, Maicon Fernandes Cintra, stated that he participated in the equipment checking process. However, when asked if he remembered having made the conference in the student's case, he also said he did not remember. The police investigate the case as a homicide with possible intent — when the risk of causing death is assumed, even without the direct intention to kill. Of the six responsible for the event, three remain in prison: precisely those who lifted and threw the student off the bridge. The Civil Police are also investigating the disappearance of a camera that was with Maria Eduarda at the time of the jump. According to the investigation, the equipment was not found.
