The alert was issued using satellite emergency equipment, known as EPIRB, which transmits distress signals. After the system was activated, the Navy's maritime search and rescue service began an operation to locate the vessel. During the searches, the company responsible for the boat sent a support vessel to the indicated area. However, upon arriving at the location, the team was unable to find Thor Noronha.
