Syria is particularly impacted by the decline in global humanitarian aid, particularly from the United States. In the northwest of the country, hundreds of thousands of displaced people are still living in makeshift shelters. When the Bashar al-Assad regime fell at the end of 2024, they hoped to be able to return home. But seeing their villages destroyed, most have remained stuck in camps awaiting reconstruction which will take years.
