According to information from the Metropolitan Civil Guard, the truck drivers themselves told the agents that they were competing in a race to decide who would arrive first at the company where they work. According to the corporation, the dispute would have caused a sequence of collisions.
Firefighters reported that the accident occurred around 8:03 pm and involved more than 10 vehicles. Among the victims are a 4-month-old baby and her mother.
A 48-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman were also injured, who had suspected fractures in the femur and pelvis, as well as a drop in blood pressure. Two other people suffered pain as a result of the impact.
Still according to the GCM, three of the injured were taken to Vitória Hospital for medical care.
The breathalyzer tests carried out on the two truck drivers yielded negative results for alcohol consumption. During the incident, agents discovered that one of the drivers was wanted by the courts for child support debt and he was arrested.
